CARC to Host 2016 ARRL Rookie ‘Round-Up’
The Cleveland Amateur Radio Club is pleased to announce it will be hosting the American Radio Relay League’s 2016 Rookie Round-Up. This is a great way to try out contesting in an event designed for newcomers. The purpose of this event is to encourage newly-licensed operators (“Rookies”) in North America to operate on the HF bands and experience competitive Amateur Radio operating.
Experienced operators (“Non-Rookies”) are strongly encouraged to participate and help new operators – either on the air or in person. “Old Timers” should also take note of this event. Consider coming to the club and becoming an Elmer to a rookie (or two). Remember, the more operators that are on the air, the more fun the ‘Roundup will be for everyone.
Activations will begin Sunday April 17th at 1800z (2pm) at the club house. More details about this event can be found at http://www.arrl.org/rookie-roundup. 2016 ARRL International DX Contest Wrap-Up
The Cleveland Amateur Radio Club’s activation for the 2016 American Radio Relay League International DX Contest has come and gone. This year was the first Club House activation for this Contest. Participation was an all-time high with nearly 30 participants throughout the weekend. Results are as follows: Today we submitted the log with 393 contacts tallying up a score of 200,000+ points with 170+ different countries contacted.
A breakdown by area is: Europe – with 226 contacts (58%), South America – 76 contacts (20%), The Caribbean – 62 contacts (15%), Asia – 14 contacts (4%), Africa – 5 contacts (1%) and last but not least our good ole American DX entities, Alaska & Hawaii – 10 contacts (2%).
Also, we would like to thank Jim Blackburn for providing a Pancake Breakfast Saturday morning and for his donation of a hotdog machine to the club and for providing hotdogs and all the trimmings. This kept us operating on a full stomach.
With this event completed and in the logs, I want to remind everyone of next month’s activation of the ARRL Rookie Round Up on April 17th. Details about this event will be sent out near the end of March.

Preliminary results for this January’s North American QSO Party
The Preliminary results for this January’s North American QSO Party have been posted to their website. Full contest results will be published in August. Other results can be found at http://ncjweb.com/naqp/
Out of the 126 stations that submitted logs in the Multi-Two Category, we preliminarily ranked 21st place, putting us in the top 20%.
As an added bonus, we ranked 1st place out of the stations operating from Tennessee and our club had a larger participation rate than any other stations submitting a log.
This is a great start for the contesting season of 2016. See you in March for the ARRL International DX Contest.
