First Contest Activation For 2016

naqp - carc     The Cleveland Amateur Radio Club Contesting Group will be activating the club house for its first contest of 2016. The North American QSO Party (SSB) will be held Saturday, January 16th. Operations will begin at 1800z (1pm).
The North American QSO Parties are favorites of beginners and seasoned operators alike. The NAQPs are low-power only (no amplifiers allowed) which makes for a lot more breathing room on the bands. Small stations can generate very effective “runs” in the NAQP contests. Multipliers count once per-band, which makes for an exciting format, as multiplier’s can be “moved” from band to band. The NAQPs allow stations from all parts of North America to be in the running for the top spots. The 12 hour format allows participants to do some great contesting, yet still have time for other activities during the weekend.
Anyone interested in participating please feel free to join us at the club house. Details about this event can be found at http://ncjweb.com/NAQP-Rules.pdf. If you have any questions or comments about this event please contact me at w4juu@yahoo.com, Buddy Kimsey at wa4niv@yahoo.com or Chris Hunter at kk4yem@carc.cc

Annual Christmas Parade

The Bradley County EMA Coordinator has requested as many volunteers as are available to control traffic along the parade route for the annual Cleveland Christmas Parade on Saturday, December 5.

RSVPs are appreciated, and should be addressed to Steve Webber by email at ka4eln@gmail.com. A mandatory briefing will be held at 4:00pm EST (21:00 UTC) at the Cleveland Police Department, where location assignments will be given. ANSI/DOT Orange safety vests are required. The club has a limited number of vests available for loan if you do not have one.

Operations will be conducted on the W4GZX-UHF repeater at 444.275MHz with a positive (+) input offset. A PL tone of 114.8Hz will be used during the event.

All participants are asked to be at their assigned locations by 5:00pm EST (22:00 UTC) to secure the route. The parade is scheduled to begin at 6:00pm EST (23:00 UTC) and is anticipated to run until 10:00pm EST (03:00 UTC), so please dress appropriately for the cold.

Wishing everyone an enjoyable weekend,
